Modern Religious Experience: Personal Commemoration- Reflection #7

Modern Religious Experience: Personal Commemoration- Reflection #7: "Think of an event in your life- past, present or future. You are going to create a commemorative ritual for this event. First, describe the ..."

My commemorative event is the day I came to Korea. I came to Korea in June 11, 2009, the summer before my freshmen year. Everything was new to me because of the atmosphere, culture, economy, and how others think. I barely ate rice cakes at the states, so I ate one at Korea, signifying that this is the first food I ate in Korea, except water. Everything in Korea was completely different from the states. It was hard to accostumed to the new system in Korea. I was able to bring some of my old cultures with me and mix them with the new ones, Korea gave. This event is important for me because this is going to be my first time living off from America and a whole different world is ahead of me.
This is a poem that is recited everytime this evnet starts:
"Once as a simple-minded duckling
Now, the time for traveling
So this is the South
Filled with everything new
Who knew?
This poem reflectst the thoughts I had before and after I came to Korea. This event takes place at any house, but mostly the grandparent's house. This event would be two days long because of how long it took to get here and how long it took me to adjust a little. On the first day, My old cultural products would be worn or brought to the house and on the second day, the korean traditions would be celebrated.
